Difference between S-cut side tape and Y-type side tape for diapers

Diaper Side tapes are key components for fastening diaper waistbands. S-cut side tape and Y-type side tape are two mainstream designs, differing in craftsmanship, performance and application scenarios.

The S-cut side tape adopts S-shaped curved cutting with smooth rounded edges. It feels soft against babies’ skin and prevents scratches. The cutting process is relatively simple at moderate cost, widely used in mid-to-high-end baby diapers, especially for newborn products. However, its stress concentrates on the bonding area, so the tab base may lift under heavy pulling.

The Y-type side tape features a composite split structure. The joint between the tab and diaper ear forms a Y shape to evenly distribute tension. It delivers better tear resistance and stays firmly attached when babies crawl or roll. It also enables smooth folding during production. The downside is its complex structure leads to higher material and converting cost, with slightly less softness than the S-cut version.
